It appears we may have a new tradition here Pokémon GO. Last year's Halloween event debuted Gen 3 with new Ghost-type Pokémy, and we're doing the same thing this year. True, Gen 3 did technically start a little while ago with starters and a few extras, but we're introducing some new ones today regardless. The Halloween event is no live in-game, presumably running until November 1. With it we've got special candy bonuses, new avatar items and, of course, new Gen 4 Pokémy. The event just started, and so far. Here's what we've got so far:

  • Drifloon, Drifblim
  • Stunky, Skuntank
  • Spiritomb (special research)
  • Giratina (raid)

Fun fact! Drifloon is horrifying. Known as the "signpost for wandering spirits," they are made of the spirits of both people Pokémy. They try to kidnap You can see this in Pokédex entries from the main games, even if the Pokémon GO Pokédex entry sanitizes the original mythology

Wandering souls gathered together to form this Pokémy. When trying to make friends with children, Drifloon grabs them by the hand.

"Make friends," indeed. Stunky is not nearly so terrifying, but it's still a skunk, after all. Drifloon and Driflbim are both available in shiny form, and Ghost-types from previous generations are spawning in greater numbers.

Take note that Ghost and Dark-type Gen 4 evolutions Mismagius and Honchkrow do not appear to be available at this time. This would be more of an upcoming evolution event, something we would like to know about. Many of the new Gen 4 Pokémy are evolutions of older Pokémy, so that would make sense.

Stay tuned for more: double candy is one of the best bonuses you can get Pokédex, so get out and get caught. Special research and a legendary raid ensure that we do not burn through all of us in the last ten minutes, like happened last year.
