Amazon Echo Subwoofer, Smart Plug leaked by Amazon UK

It was announced earlier this week that Amazon is considering launching a series of new devices supporting its vocal assistant Alexa. Now two of these devices have been leaked online and one of them is a subwoofer for the Echo smart speakers.

The subwoofer is called the Sub Echo and it was spotted by Pocket-Lint on the amazon.co.uk website. Amazon has made no official announcement regarding the upcoming product, so the Echo Sub could have been prematurely listed on the site. The Echo Sub turns out to be a device that works with one or two other Echo speakers. The device is designed to bring better overall sound quality by bringing in more bass.

The leak list for the Echo Sub also indicates that it will allow users to have a 2.1 stereo system when paired with two Echo speakers. The two standard Echo speakers will act as left and right audio channels, while the Sub Echo will be for the bass. The Echo Sub is wireless, which also means that users will be able to connect it to standard Echo speakers using the Alexa app on smartphones.

Stereo coupling is currently unavailable for standard Echo speakers, but Apple's HomePod is already offering it, as The Verge has pointed out. The introduction of the Echo Sub will not only help Amazon to catch up with Apple, but will also give Echo an edge over the HomePod through a subwoofer.

The other product that has been leaked by the Amazon UK website is Amazon Smart Plug. The device looks like a standard smart plug and it is able to perform a basic Alexa voice control for connected devices. When a device is connected to the Smart Plug, users will be able to ask Alexa to activate and deactivate it by simply using voice commands.

The prices of the two upcoming products have also been posted on the site. Echo Sub costs £ 75 (around $ 99), while Amazon Smart Plug costs £ 95 (around $ 125). The price quoted for the Smart Plug socket may be incorrect because it seems too expensive. Similar devices usually cost no more than $ 25. It is also possible that the price of the Echo Sub is incorrect, but a $ 99 wireless subwoofer would not be too outrageous.

Both devices are listed as having an October 11 release date. If this is true, then Amazon might consider officially announcing both products very soon.
