Amazon has unveiled a new waterproof Kindle Paperwhite, which is available in India from Rs. 12,999. The new Kindle Paperwhite will be available from November 14th. The Kindle Paperwhite is rated IPX8, which means it can be submerged in up to two meters of water for 60 minutes. Kindle users have been asking for this feature for a long time, and Amazon has finally brought it to Paperwhite. Amazon's first waterproof e-book reader was the Kindle Oasis, but this feature is now available at a more affordable price.

The size of the screen of the device is the same as that of the previous generation of Kindle Paperwhite, six inches. The new variant is available in two storage variants: 8 GB with Wi-Fi or 32 GB with Wi-Fi and 4G. The 32GB Kindle Paperwhite 4G costs Rs. 17,999 and is the only Kindle 4G on the market. The Kindle Oasis, much more expensive, is always delivered with a 3G variant.

The new Kindle Paperwhite display is at the same level as the rest of the screen, which is an improvement over the previous version, where the display was slightly lower than the glasses. This Kindle Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than the previous model (8.18mm thick and 182g). The screen has a front light (five LEDs), but it lacks the Adaptive Lightness feature of the Kindle Oasis. As part of the introductory offerings, Amazon bundles three months of Kindle Unlimited membership and two years of extended warranty for those who pre-order the Kindle Paperwhite.

On the software side, some improvements have been made to the Kindle Paperwhite. It has a new home screen that recommends books based on your reading history. You can sometimes read them for free through Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading subscription services. You can also record multiple playback settings, such as font and size, and quickly switch between these profiles. This may be ideal for homes where a single Kindle is shared by multiple people. Amazon claims that these software changes will be reflected in the Kindle Paperwhite 2013 as well as in the revised version released in 2015, which is good news for those who already own the device.

Finally, the Kindle Paperwhite also receives a line of covers from Amazon, which costs Rs. 1,799 for water-resistant fabric coatings, Rs. 2,399 for leather and Rs. 2999 for cover in premium rustic leather. These hoods have a magnetic snap feature that prevents the shutter from opening unless you want it. It automatically locks and unlocks the device (unless you protect it with a password).
