Earlier this month, Google released Android distribution numbers for September just two weeks after publishing the August figures. Today, Google has released revised statistics for the month when Android 9 Pie is still remarkably absent.
Launched early August for Google Pixel and Pixel 2, it is now available for Essential Phone, OnePlus 6 and today Nokia 7 Plus. Despite this, Android 9 Pie is still not included in the Android distribution numbers.
Google has been inconsistent in providing these numbers over the last few months. Given today's publication, it appears that the company is adopting a subsequent program. Except for the first figures of September, the figures for August were published on the last day of the month. Meanwhile, the month of July has been delayed and the month of June has completely disappeared.
Oreo sees a considerable jump with 8.0 to 13.4% against 11.4% and 8.1 to 5.8% against 3.2%. By combining 19.2%, this increase of 4.6 points makes Oreo the third most used version of Android.
Nougat fell slightly to 29.3% from 30.8%, but remains the most popular version of the operating system. Marshmallow is 21.6% and the lollipop 18.3%. KitKat (7.8%) and Jelly Bean (3.2%) complete the list, while the ice cream sandwich and the spice bread each represent 0.3%.
These figures are compiled from Android devices accessed the Play Store during a seven day period ending September 28th.
