Apple announced today that it now supports Mac application bundles and free subscription apps. Announced via its developer portal, Apple says that developers will be able to "create bundles of applications for Mac applications or free applications offering a renewable subscription automatically."
Bundles allow customers to buy up to 10 of your apps in one purchase. And now, you can create application bundles for Macs or free apps offering a renewable subscription automatically to access all apps from the set. Learn how to set up application packages and market them effectively on your App Store product page.
With support for macOS application bundles, developers can offer a bundle of up to 10 apps, allowing users to buy them all at the same time, at a discounted rate.
App bundles have been around for quite some time, but they have been limited to fee-based iOS apps without support for current subscriptions. This is also the first time that sets of applications are available on Mac. While this makes sense, Apple has just made a major redesign of the Mac App Store alongside the release of macOS Mojave.
While adding support for all types of applications is a good thing, some developers claim that the subscription model is starting to take control of the App Store and that application acquisition is becoming slightly expensive.
