The sudden disappearance of Tumblr from the iOS App Store on Friday, still unresolved, was due to the fact that elements had slipped through child pornography filters from the blogging network, according to the company.

"Every image uploaded to Tumblr is scanned with the help of an industrial database containing information about sexual abuse of children, and the detected images never reach the platform", the statement said. "A routine audit revealed content on our platform that had not yet been included in the industry database. We immediately deleted that content."

Work is continuing to return Tumblr to the App Store, said the company, without specifying the changes made or schedule. For unknown reasons, the app remains available on Google Play for Android devices.

Apple has adopted a zero tolerance policy, choosing to shoot any application containing child pornography accessible, even though it may be hard to find and that developers are continually trying to remove it. Another example is February, when the popular Telegram email application was removed. Apple has worked with Telegram to eliminate illegal content, ban users and set up controls.

This process took about a day, however, which raises questions about the obstacles faced by Tumblr.
