The new iPhone is now available in stores, and you may not need to wait long to get one.
The Destiny USA Apple Store opened Friday at 8am, a dozen customers wanting to buy the iPhone XS or the largest iPhone XS Max. There were more employees inside the store than people waiting to enter.
"It's Syracuse, not New York City," said one client about shrinking the crowd.
But the lines for Apple's flagship store in Times Square seemed shorter than in previous years, and CNBC reports that the crowds were smaller in cities like Tokyo and London. Mac rumors say that some places, like Singapore and Berlin, still drew hundreds before the stores opened, but most US sites have seen shorter lines.
There were also more than 150 people at the Syracuse Mall, the stores that opened last year when the 10th anniversary of the iPhone X was on sale.
An Apple employee at the Syracuse store declined to comment on the size of the crowd.
Demand for this year's upgrade may be lower due to limited improvements and higher price tags. The overall price range for the various iPhone models is $ 449 to $ 1,449 (iPhone XS Max with 512GB of storage) – up from $ 349 to $ 1,149 last year.
Bloomberg says the wait times for shipments have decreased this year, in part because "the global smartphone industry has stagnated at about 1.5 billion devices sold each year." Apple also relies more on online sales for the annual iPhone launch and is investing more money in other products, such as the Apple Watch Series 4.
The tech giant is also looking for ways to get the most out of iPhone fans, with more expensive options. The company has also stopped using its headphone adapter and no longer has a headphone jack for the latest iPhone models; Therefore, users must pay $ 9 for a Lightning headset dongle or purchase the $ 159 Apple Wireless ApplePods, also sold separately.
The pre-orders for the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the Apple Watch Series 4 debuted last week. The cheaper iPhone XR, available in bright colors such as coral, blue, yellow and red, will go on sale Oct. 26 with pre-orders starting Oct. 19.
Granted, there is an important construction and another location, but I have not seen such a low participation in launching an iPhone on the flagship Apple Store of NYC for at least three years. Not even a hundred people are waiting. pic.twitter.com/Is7w0bzOoZ
