Apple launched Tuesday WatchOS 5.1, bringing the long-awaited ECG (electrocardiogram) application for the Apple 4 Series watches, as well as smaller changes for all compatible models.

The ECG application.

The ECG application.

The update must be installed via the iPhone Watch application. An iPhone and a watch must also be close to each other and the watch must be powered by a charger and be powered at least 50%.

ECG support is one of the key selling points of the 4 Series, but has been disabled since the launch of the notebook on September 21st. The technology relies on electrodes embedded in the base and digital crown, which allows it to function as a single-wire ECG sensor. . This can be used to detect signs of atrial fibrillation, although watches such as Series 3 may do so to a lesser extent.

The other changes are comparatively minor. The software supports FaceTime group calls via audio and some new customization options for the dial.
