7-Eleven has started to accept Apple Pay and Google Pay for purchases.

Mobile payment systems, which typically use your phone or smartwatch, have begun to be accepted at 7-Eleven stores in the United States, the convenience store giant announced on Monday. Support for contactless payment systems is gradually being extended in September, joining the Samsung Pay mobile payment option, said 7-Eleven in a statement.
"Frictionless experiences are the future, and digital payments are the key to such experiences," said Gurmeet Singh, CDO and CIO of 7-Eleven. "Consumers prefer to shop at retailers that offer digital payment capabilities."
While many 7-Eleven buyers are likely to welcome the news, extending the footprint of payment systems to buyers in the convenience store chain is also good news for Apple and Google. As smartphone sales stagnate, the service sector is seen as a critical growth area.
7-Eleven is the latest retailer to adopt rival mobile payment platforms to pay for goods and services, which technology giants consider a crucial step to pass to a competitor.
Costco, a big-box retailer, said last month that it had started accepting Apple Pay at its 750 US warehouses, joining Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
A representative from Apple sent a request for comment to Apple CEO Tim Cook's remarks at a press conference in July. "We are delighted to share this in the US, eBay is starting to allow its vendors to accept Apple Pay and CVS Pharmacy and 7-Eleven will launch Apple Pay acceptance across the country this fall," Cook said. .
Google has not responded to a request for comment.
