Apple permanently banned the "Infowars" app from the App Store

Apple removed the Infowars app from the App Store, just a day after the controversial Infowars radio show host, Alex Jones, was permanently banned from Twitter.

Apple has confirmed the permanent withdrawal of the application to BuzzFeed late Friday, but instead of giving a specific reason to act now, Apple has simply cited its own general guidelines on the App Store, which prohibit any content "offensive, insensitive, disturbing, intended to disgust or having an unusually tasteful bad".

Earlier last month, Apple removed all libraries of five Infowars podcasts from its podcasts platform and said it chose to do so on the grounds that it did not tolerate hate speech.

At the time, the technology giant had defended its decision not to remove the Infowars application, claiming that the App Store was a place of "every point of view" as long as the apps respected users with different opinions. However, Apple also noted that it continues to monitor applications for violations of its guidelines and remove them if necessary.

The initial position of Apple seemed strange to some observers, since the Infowars mobile application allowed users to stream live the same programs deleted from the Apple Podcasts platform. The continued availability of the app also allowed him to benefit from the publicity surrounding the removal of podcasts by Apple.

However, this is no longer the case and, on Friday night, search for the app in the App Store only returns applications related to Infowars, while the official app is not found .

Apple's removal of the Infowars app follows Twitter's decision Thursday to permanently suspend Alex Jones and Infowars. The social media network said the suspension was based on new reports of tweets and videos published in violation of its abusive behavior policy, in addition to previous account violations.
