The Wall Street Journal IPhone prices of $ 750 could drop as early as next week, citing sources close to Apple's commercial strategy in the region.
"A price reduction within a month of the release is rare, not only for Apple, but for smartphone manufacturers in general," said a senior manager of a telephone operator mobile, which monitors sales.
Analysts say the demand for iPhone XR can reflect what happened with the iPhone 5c in 2013, where sales resumed the following year. Apple's more expensive XS and XS Max models, released a month earlier, are more appealing to first-time tech users who typically power first-time sales of new iPhones.
The decision comes as a result of a WSJ report earlier this week that claims Apple has cut production orders for its latest iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR models due to a lower demand than expected.
Part of the problem for Apple is that the iPhone 8 is apparently still very popular in Japan because of its affordable price, since it is cheaper than the XR and that it was still available when Apple launched the XS and XS Max models.
according to WSJApple's suppliers have also resumed manufacturing the iPhone X, the 2017 model that Apple no longer sells in its own stores. If Apple plans to sell the old model in Japan, it would not be the first time that the company would produce previously stopped models for regional markets where demand was sufficient for cheaper devices. This strategy also allows Apple to benefit from lower cost components and amortized production line machines.
However, sources in the supply chain who spoke WSJ claims that the resumption of production of the iPhone X is partly due to the need for Apple to use OLED panels ordered from Samsung – panels that were previously intended to iPhone XS and the XS Max devices that have been hit since with significant production cuts.
