California police announced the arrest and charges of a network of Apple product thieves throughout the state. The announcement was made by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who said he arrested 17 people who were later charged with their roles in a robbery scheme that appeared to target Apple stores for several months.

Thefts went as follows: several suspects enter the Apple Store. The suspects, who wear long-sleeved hooded sweaters and long pants, remove merchandise from display tables, removing mobile devices and those held by security cables. The suspects do not seem to threaten anyone and, in most cases, leave without any injury.
Police authorities have suggested that the alleged crimes took place over several weeks and hit Apple Store stores for "the loss of more than a million dollars" in 19 counties in the state of California. Of the people for whom charges and / or arrest warrants have been issued, 10 are currently in custody – 9 in Alameda County Jail and another in Sonoma County. Nine other arrest warrants were issued.
Attorney General Becerra has laid charges of "conspiracy to commit a grand robbery" against "individuals in Fresno, Santa Clara and Alameda counties". None of these people have yet been tried by a court. "Every accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty," according to the California State Government's California State Department of Justice website.
