California is rife with Apple thieves.
State Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Thursday that 17 people were arrested and charged on a robbery of Apple stores in 19 counties, causing more than $ 1 million in property losses. The investigation is underway
Accused persons reportedly entered retail stores in large groups, wearing sweatshirts and exhibits in a matter of seconds. They face charges of conspiracy to commit a franchise robbery.
"Organized retail theft costs California business owners millions and exposes them to imitating criminals. In the end, consumers pay the cost of this misappropriation of goods," Becerra said in a statement. "We will continue our work with local law enforcement authorities to extinguish this mob mentality and prosecute these criminals to hold them accountable."
The Becerra office did not immediately respond to a request for additional comments.
