Zimmer Biomet, a musculoskeletal care company, has partnered with Apple to use the Apple Watch and the iPhone as part of a clinical study. The work involves a new application called mymobility, which allows hip and knee replacement patients to communicate directly with their healthcare professionals. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application and devices on the costs and outcomes for these patients.
Zimmer Biomet has combined his study topics with an Apple Watch and mymobility application, which will be used by patients during their joint replacement experience. The company says its application and Apple's laptop are designed to "act as a continuous and virtual care team" available to the patient.
The application will be used to provide advice and support to these patients before and after joint replacement surgery. Surgeons, meanwhile, will receive the data collected by the two projects related to the patient. Health professionals will be able to send reminders, educational information, etc. to their patients.
In addition, physicians will be able to directly see the level of activity of their patients in the weeks before and after surgery. Several hospitals, practice groups and academic centers are involved in this study, which could involve up to 10,000 subjects in the United States.
Jeff Williams, director of operations at Apple, said:
We believe that one of the best ways to empower consumers is to give them the opportunity to use their health and activity information to improve their care. We are proud to allow patients who have had knee and hip replacements to use their own data and share it seamlessly with their doctor, so that they can participate in their care and treatment. recovery in a way that had not previously been possible thanks to traditional in-person visits. This solution will connect consumers with their doctors constantly, before and after surgery.
