Display
The first thing you may notice about the 4 Series is its larger screen, which is 35% larger than the 3 Series. Compared to the Series 3 42mm 3 and 44mm Series 4 Series Display while the 4-series has a 977 mm² display area. This means that the 44mm Series 4 screen is 32% larger than the 42mm series.
Likewise for smaller models, the 38 mm 3-series has a display area of 563 mm, compared to the 40 mm 4-series with a display area of 759 mm 2. This results in an increase of the display size of 35% between generations. Essentially, this means that the 4 Series offers more screens in what is almost the same package as the 3 Series, with thinner glasses that are visually similar to the rounded corners of the iPhone X and the iPhone XS.
The increase in the display area also translates into increased resolution, with the 44-series 44mm, 368×448 pixels vs. 312×390 on the 42mm series. The 40 mm 4 series displays 324 x 394 pixels. With all these changes, application icons and fonts are now larger and easier to read.
Suitcase size
Although display sizes have been increased, changes to the actual size of the Apple Series 4 cases are minimal, despite the new measurements. 38mm in the 3 and front series became 40mm, and 42mm in the 3 and front series became 44mm, these two figures representing the height of the Apple Watch Series 4 case.
This is a change that should not be too noticeable, unless you compare Series 4 side-by-side to a previous generation model. And do not worry about this update affecting your current group collection, as Apple made it clear at the conference yesterday that all previous Apple Watch groups would correspond to Series 4.
Regarding the finesse, the Apple Watch Series 4 watch is just under 1mm compared to the 3 Series. The 4 Series measures 10.7mm thick, compared to 11.4mm for the 3 Series.
Processor
As expected with an Apple update, the Series 4 received a stronger processor in the form of the 64-bit dual-core S4 processor.
Apple claims that this technology is up to twice as fast as the S3 processor in the 3 series, allowing the 4 Series to be faster when opening apps and to the performance of other functions.
Watch the faces
Exclusively on Apple Watch Series 4, you'll find a set of watch faces that take advantage of enlarged screens to present up to eight complications.
These complications have been improved to be more precise and provide more information by increasing the display area.
There are also some faces that react uniquely to the edges of the 4-series screen, such as steam, liquid metal and fire and water.
Health
For the first time in a portable device, you will be able to perform a complete reading of the ECG on the Apple Watch Series 4. Using electrodes built into the digital crown and a new electric heart rate sensor perform a playback when you touch and hold the digital crown for 30 seconds.
The application can classify if your heart beats in a normal pattern or if there are signs of atrial fibrillation, which could suggest potential complications for health. You will be able to save your ECG recordings in the iOS Health app and create a PDF file to share with your doctor. While Apple Watch has always been able to track your heart rate, the ECG app is a major update to the Apple notebook line.
The ECG app will be added to Apple Watch Series 4 later this year and will only be available in the US at launch.
