I already said: what
Apple
In short: many new Apple iPhones refuse to charge. This news follows a wave of complaints from Apple support communities, Reddit, MacRumors forums, Twitter and YouTube. And YouTube's most popular technology channel has now posted how widespread it is.
Lewis Hilsenteger, aka Unbox Therapy, spoke to me before publishing hundreds of posts detailing a phenomenon in which iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max do not charge if plugged into a wall charger Eve. In addition, some phones are frozen and need to be reset.
Curious about how widespread this is, Hilsenteger has reached eight iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models and connected them to Apple's standard charger. Of the eight only two (an iPhone XS, an iPhone XS Max) were working properly and were loaded in sleep mode.
Five of the other six (two iPhone XS, three iPhone XS Max) refused to charge until their screens were woken up, while an iPhone XS Max refused to charge under any circumstances and was frozen for several minutes when the magazine has been inserted.
As Hilsenteger points out, Apple sells millions of iPhones, so it's impossible to understand the scale of this problem, but given its tests and hundreds of comments on support forums and social networks, is important. Especially since some users are noticing replacement devices present the same problem.
As for the solutions, they are not great.
Some users have found that it is useful to return the Lightning cable (suggesting a hardware defect in the Lightning port). While the best alternative at the moment is to use a wireless charger. This is not ideal, however, because a prolonged wireless charge degrades the health of the battery and Apple charge higher prices for iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max replacement batteries.
Therefore, the pressure is now exerted on Apple to answer this problem and confirm if the problem can be solved with software or there will be a wider product recall. A poster on Apple Support Communities reports Apple technical support is "aware" of the problem and recommends replacing the phone, again suggesting that it is hardware.
In an attempt to solve this problem, I have requested an official statement from Apple and will update it as soon as I know more.
In the end, given its superior battery life and attractive price tag, these latest revelations on the iPhone XS make it a real headache to wait for the Colorful iPhone XR…
