About two weeks ago, ASUS dropped a new Chromebook, the ASUS C423. You can inquire about this device if you wish, but what we are talking about today is the big brother of this device, the ASUS C523, which should be launched next to the C423.
ASUS has designed a very convincing package for these two devices, but one of the biggest strengths of the larger C523 is its 15.6-inch display. In fact, this is the first time that ASUS has ventured into the 15-inch territory by joining Acer and Lenovo.
So, what does this new Chromebook bring to the table? Check it out:
- Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core N3350 Processor or Intel® Pentium® Quad-Core N4200 Processor
- 4 GB / 8 GB of RAM
- 15 "1920 × 1080 anti-glare screen (with touch option)
- SD card slot
- HD Webcam
- Integrated 802.11a / b / g / n / ac (2 × 2)
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 1 x COMBO audio jack
- 2 x USB type A 3.1 (generation 1)
- 2 x USB 3.0 type C (USB 3.1 Gen 1) with display and support for power
- 15.6mm thickness
- 3.2 pounds
Like the smaller C423, these specs seem quite familiar. If you remember Acer's Chromebook 15 at the beginning of the year, you have a good idea of what we are working on. In fact, in the article on the C423, I imagined that this device was an ASUS game to compete with the popular Acer 15.
Seems this C523 is a lot more in line with this thought process, though.
ASUS has put together an excellent landing page covering the C523, but the specifications and "where to buy" are still missing. We are in contact with ASUS and can confirm that, from a technical point of view, the 14 and 15 inch versions of these devices will be the same thing internally (hence the list of specifications above).
ASUS has also created a video presentation of the new pair of Chromebooks, which showcases the best parts of these upcoming machines. Viewing.
All in all, I think these Chromebooks could become pretenders as long as the price is reasonable. You can buy the Acer Chromebook 15 on Amazon now for $ 349 and the Acer Chromebook Spin 15 convertible for $ 399. Both devices use the best processor N4200 (compared to the N3350, which is an option on these two devices and the next ASUS 423/523). These prices must therefore be at the highest level of the products offered by ASUS, otherwise everyone will want to buy the Acer 15.

This fall should be the most competitive Chromebooks season to date, with the imminent arrival of the new Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14, Lenovo Yoga Chromebook 15, Acer Spin 13, HP Chromebook x360 and Pixel Slate next month.
With all these players, and more likely to arrive in the first quarter of 2019 with Qualcomm powered devices around the corner, ASUS needs to ensure that these new Chromebooks are not only enjoyable to use, but also economical.
