If we refer to another week of Cupertino news, this week's Apple Loop includes falling iPhone sales, Apple's price cuts on the iPhone XR, the return of the iPhone X, a review of the Mac Mini, everyone waiting for MacBook Air and Black Friday's best deals for Apple hardware.

Apple Loop is here to remind you of some of the many discussions that have been taking place around Apple over the past seven days (and you can read my weekly summary of Android news on Forbes).

Is there any good news in Apple's iPhone sales figures?

The decline in sales of iPhone 2018 handsets has attracted a lot of attention. Although Apple decided to no longer report its sales, the supply chain had enough indicators to illustrate the downward trend in expected iPhone sales. This is a frightening prospect for Apple on the surface, but this could be good news for the moment to talk about its quarterly figures:

Apple has already announced that it would no longer offer sales figures for the iPhone, but that it would focus on Apple's software and services in the near future. With the increase in the retail price of major iPhones and increased device margins, it is likely that Apple's revenues and profits will remain high.

This increase in numbers, coupled with the perception of lower sales, will (hopefully) confirm that Tim Cook's new scenario for Apple is working.

Apple cuts the price of its iPhone XR

Along with declining numbers in the supply chain, Apple is reducing the wholesale cost of the iPhone in Japan. By offering larger grants, it is hoped that operators will make greater efforts to sell the new handset through higher margins. Benjamin Mayo reports:

Apple is considering lowering the prices of the iPhone XR in Japan by offering subsidies to Japanese operators … The price cuts would apparently come into effect as early as next week. The price of 750 USD is somewhat disguised in Japan due to bundled carrier contracts, but the device seems seemingly overshadowed by the iPhone 8, still popular in the region.

Welcome to the iPhone X

Associated with the decline in sales of the iPhone XS and XS Max and a possible commitment Samsung to buy a number of OLED displays, Apple has increased the production of the iPhone X (according to the Wall Street Journal), a device actually interrupted. in the Apple Stores with the launch of the 2018 handset family. Jon Porter looks at the details:

The move is due to an agreement with Samsung to purchase a certain amount of OLED screens. The report suggests that Apple is turning to the model of last year to find a solution, because models equipped with OLED this year fail to sell the quantities needed to meet the terms of the agreement. Apple stopped selling the iPhone X in stores when the XS was launched.

According to the WSJ report, the iPhone X would be cheaper to produce than the XS or the XS Max because of its age, which means that components and manufacturing equipment are cheaper. In the past, existing models were produced when demand was sufficient in some markets.

Review of the Mac Mini

As part of Apple's October launch, Tim Cook and his team finally updated the Mac Mini. The base price has risen slightly to $ 800, but it retains a plethora of ports, a hardware encoding in the T2 chip, but a lower GPU. Marco Arment took a closer look at the revision of the 2018 edition of the Mini:

The goal of the Mac Mini is to be as versatile as possible, meeting many diverse and diverse needs that other Macs can not satisfy with their very different form factors and their smarter designs. The Mac Mini must be a utility product and not a design statement. (Although, although I'm tired of all that is gray in space, I must admit that the Mini looks fantastic in its new color.)

weAll are waiting for air

Analysts are hoping that the fall in market share for MacOS-based machines in the third quarter of 2018 has been attributed to people waiting for the long-running update of the MacBook Air – which arrived in October. With a 2.5% drop, Apple loses fourth place in the market share ranking for Asus, while HP, Lenovo and Dell remain on the podium. Ben Lovejoy reports:

The model has been updated with the latest Intel eighth generation processors, a third-generation enhanced keyboard, a True Tone display and the 32GB RAM option.

People waiting for the new MacBook Air, launched last month, have probably played an important role. A smaller number of customers will also be waiting for the 2018 Mac mini.

The real test will be to determine if Apple will recover its share of the holiday quarter. We will only know by estimate, because the company stops declaring unit sales.

And finally…

It's the Black Friday weekend and all the manufacturers are entering into agreements to facilitate the transfer of the stocks. Apple is not alone, but as Cnet's Rick Broida notes, it may not be much:

Apple does not really do Black Friday, at least not like other stores. There is no advertising disclosed in the coming weeks and, historically, little reduction in Black Friday discounts.

But if you are looking for the best Black Friday deals for Apple hardware, you have to look outside the Apple Store. Gordon Kelly and BestBlackFriday.com have indicated where to start:

Yesterday, Apple confirmed a four-day black Friday sale. But you will have a bad surprise. The story tells us that Apple.com is still the worst Black Friday sales destination of the year. For example, last year, Apple offered gift cards worth up to $ 150 when you bought old models at full price. Apple Black Friday sales are much better, and they are the best among the best …
