Barely a month after launch, Destiny 2: Forsaken now comes with its one year DLC

From Tuesday, October 16, if you buy Destiny 2: Forsaken, you'll get last year's two pieces of DLC for free. If you already own Forsaken and those expansions, and you log in before Tuesday, you'll get a bundle of pretty cool cosmetics.

This means if you own Forsaken you get in the fun. Forsaken has truly revived Destiny 2 and might even represent a high point for the series overall. And on that note: shameless review plug.

As for those cosmetics, they include an exclusive handsome shader and emblem with another of Bungie's characteristic tiger themes; two exotic emotes, including Petra's knife-spin trick; and a bundle of consumables to pop during activities for bonus rewards.

So on the face of it, this is pretty great news – one of the few criticisms made of Forsaken is that it was too expensive to buy all the required content. And according to the Bungie Weekly Update, where the move was announced, it is a response to such feelings: Bungie "Want to make it easier for other Guardians to begin their journey in Forsaken."

However, it is a question of what has been done in the past, and what has been done about it? Forsaken's launch: those who pre-ordered, and those who prudently waited for the year one season passes those who will benefit from this surprise discount.

Several commenters have found themselves in this exact position. Bungie implies the risk of being trailed: "for you, and only the players like you, we have a collection of veterans' rewards as an expression of our appreciation for being on the frontlines."

The weekly update preview Destiny 2's coming Halloween event, the Festival of the Lost. That kicks off on Tuesday, alongside the next Iron Banner week, and will run until November 6. There's also an excellent featured community movie this week, which I'm leaving here.
