Google officially announces the update of its new devices and equipment during its annual October 9 material event. It appears that one of the updates has already been released before the scheduled date.

Reddit user GroveStreetHomie said he was able to buy a third generation Chromecast that was not on the market at Best Buy, which had accidentally put it on sale.

The Redditor said he went to buy a Chromecast for a new TV when he noticed that the packaging and design of this device was different from what he had.

At first, GroveStreetHomie thought it was just a refresh of the design, but when he was about to pay for this article, he realized the device could be a next generation Chromecast .

"When I was at the checkout, they could not scan the item because it was not in the system yet because the release date was October 9 (same day as the day before). Google event 2018) but I guess they've put it too early, "GroveStreetHomie shared on Reddit.

"But as I already had it in my hands and I was paying the same price as the 2nd generation Chromecast, they let me have it under the old SKU."

The device would be thicker than the old model. It also has a matte finish, instead of the glossy plastic used by the second generation of Chromecast. The chrome logo at the top has also been replaced by a G-shaped icon, which corresponds to the Pixel range.

The Reddit user was unable to set up Chromecast because the Google Home app said that it needed to be updated first, even though it was the most recent version.

The Federal Communications Commission has certified an updated version of Chromecast with Bluetooth last month. It is still unclear whether the Chromecast purchased from Best Buy is the same model that went through the FCC.

according to Android font, the second generation of Chromecast has an FFC ID of A4RNC2-6A5. The model certified last month has a FFC identifier of A4RNC2-6A5B. The Chromecast box photo shared on Reddit showed an identifier showing only NC2-6A5, which is identical to existing Chromecast models.

Android font stated that the product could be just a visual refresh of the existing hardware and is not the updated model. It is also possible that Google does not have to have the full FCC ID on the box.
