Starfield is an epic science-fiction solo, and the first new series of Bethesda – creator of Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom and Wolfenstein – in 25 years.
And it looks like it's the first game to be announced for a new generation game console. Not the PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One X but a brand new generation of hardware that has not even been announced yet.
That's the word of Bethesda's executive producer and director Todd Howard, who told Eurogamer that when he said "new generation," he meant specifically the combination of next-generation hardware, next-generation software gen and next-gen gameplay, not just one of the three. we put it on – what are the material requirements – is yet to be determined, "Howard said at the publication. "We are pushing, we are thinking very, very far in the future, so we are building something that will support the next-generation hardware. That's what we're relying on right now," he says. We do not mean that it does not exist either on the current systems. "
So, it is possible that you also see a version of PS4, Xbox or Switch. There is usually a transition period when new consoles come in, anyway. But Howard told our sister site GameSpot that it's not out of the question for the game to completely move the current consoles.
Notice, Howard did not say the word "console", and we are not yet clear what the next-gen consoles might look like, or whether they will be consoles. At E3, Microsoft said that it was building the next Xbox consoles with a rumor linking them for the year 2020 . Meanwhile, Sony mysteriously hinted that its next PlayStation could arrive in 2021 .
But Sony and Microsoft also work on streaming games just as EA and Google . So do not be surprised if your next console lives in the cloud .
Bethesda did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
