Yes, you must pay more in advance, but an unlocked phone gives you more options when it comes to choosing your carrier and you only pay for the service. The handset will still retain a high level of resale value, and owning it strictly means that it's easier to do a carrier jump at your leisure.

Verizon's current "transaction" for many of its Android phones is to lower the original price by $ 100 when you upgrade to your current line from a previous model. You can also get a $ 300 reprieve when you switch providers or activate an additional service line. In either case, you will need to exchange your current phone.

T-Mobile's Black Friday deal starts on November 16th and … it's a little complicated, so support me. You can get a free phone (select from some models) or benefit from a discount of up to $ 750 on the total price of the phone. That's if you exchange an old phone and add an extra line of service to your plan. So, if you already have a phone line, this offer is valid if you add a second line. If you pay for two phone lines, it works when you add a third.

Here's how phones move:
