Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 has abandoned a single-player campaign in favor of a new royal battle mode called "Blackout". Although it is disappointing to see the campaign canceled, I can not help but be excited by the new mode. All we have seen about Blackout is great.

Fortunately, we will not only have screenshots and trailers before the launch of the game next October. Treyarch will launch a closed beta starting this week entirely devoted to Blackout. Here's everything you need to know about the beta version of Blackout on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Is the beta version open to the public?

This is a question with two answers: Yes and no. The "no" in this case is the most accurate answer, however. If you are on PS4 or Xbox One, you will need to pre-order the game to play in the beta version of Blackout. If you're on PC, there will be a short open beta next weekend (more details below). If you are looking for a gift key, see below how I can help you.

Beginning and end times

As always, PS4 players will have the opportunity to get into the beta first. Here are the start and end times for the three platforms:

PS4:

  • Start time: Monday 10 September at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT
  • End time: Monday, September 17 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT

Xbox One

  • Start time: Friday, September 14 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT
  • End time: Monday, September 17 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT

PC (Battle.net)

  • Order Start Time: Friday, September 14 at 10:00 am Pacific Time / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT
  • Opening of the beta: Saturday, September 15 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT
  • End time: Monday, September 17 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 5 pm GMT

What is included in the beta?

Treyarch has already launched beta for its main multiplayer modes. This beta will only focus on the blackout. The Royal Battle Mode includes 80 players who come down on the map in combination and fight to see who can be the last player, duo or squad. The full beta of the week will be Blackout and we should have a very good idea of what this mode has to offer and find out if it can compete with Fortnite and PUBG, at the end of that.

  • You can see the full map here.
  • Watch the amazing gameplay trailer here.

How can I get a key if I have not pre-ordered it?

Many influencers will give keys, including your humble narrator. Retweet the following tweet and tell me why you want a Blackout code. I will give a code to the first 50 people who retweet. (And I would also like a follow-up.) Note: If you have already entered one of the Black Ops 4 beta, you can simply use this key / install for the beta version of Blackout. No need for a second key.

Note: Keys are platform independent and can be redeemed here. If you plan to play on PC, you do not really need it since the open beta next weekend.

UPDATE: I am currently running out of keys. If I get more, I'll announce it on Twitter, so Do not hesitate to follow me there.

Is it on Steam?

For the first time, Activision chooses to use Battle.net from Blizzard rather than Steam. This is not a surprise since Destiny 2 is also exclusively on Battle.net. Should be interesting to see if this is better on PC because of this, especially with a royal battle mode. Download the Battle.net client here.
