You will not be able to simply insert your Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 disc on your Xbox One or PlayStation 4 and start playing this Friday.

If you get a physical version of the game, you need to download a really huge first day patch before you can get into multiplayer mode, Blackout or Zombies.

What is the size of this patch? 50 gigabytes.

According to Activision, you will need a total of 112 GB of free space on your PS4's hard drive. However, the final size of the installation is 55 GB only. If the footprint is the same on Xbox One, Activision does not mention the need to have 112 GB of free space for the Microsoft console.

This means that anyone with a physical version of the game will have to download a file almost the size of the digital version (55 GB), even with a disc. Which is a little crazy.

This is not a problem as important as it would have been a few years ago. The speed of the Internet has come a long way, on the one hand. On the other hand, it's a game that requires a solid internet connection to be able to play. You will not do very well in Black Ops 4 multiplayer with a lousy ping.

Still, 50 GB is an incredibly long update one day.

Black Ops 4 launches without a single-player campaign (a first for the series) this Friday, October 12 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Even without single player mode, it's exciting to have Battle Royale in Blackout. You can read my impressions of the beta here.
