Apple has launched a new version of its eGPU package, developed in collaboration with Blackmagicdesign, to enhance the graphics processing of Macs equipped with Thunderbolt 3. Blackmagic eGPU Pro is equipped with a new Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics card .
Blackmagic eGPU Pro next to a MacBook Pro
Appearing in the Apple Store, the Blackmagic eGPU Pro is equipped with the Radeon RX Vega 56 with 8 GB of HBM2 memory. Using an all-in-one aluminum casing similar to the one of the previous generation, the eGPU is able to accelerate games and graphics-hungry professional applications, suggesting that Apple could also to be used to enable virtual reality experiences.
Mainly connected to its Mac host with the help of Thunderbolt 3, the unit includes two total Thunderbolt 3 ports, four USB 3 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port and a DisplayPort 1.4 connection. The device is also capable of delivering 85 watts of power, which allows it to charge a connected MacBook Pro while providing additional graphics performance.
The unit weighs 9.92 pounds in total, and measures 6.96 inches wide and long, and 11.59 inches tall. It comes with a Thunderbolt 3 cable of 1.64 feet, as well as a power cable.
Delivered in late November, Blackmagic eGPU Pro will cost $ 1,199
The original Blackmagic eGPU is still available in the Apple Online Store, featuring a Radeon Pro 580 graphics processor and priced at $ 699.
