It often happens that BMW's greatest competition goes back a few years. As to warn critics who claim that the all-new BMW 3 Series 2019 will not perform as well as the old BMW, development manager, Klaus Frohlich, has delivered a surprisingly frank and unusual talk to the Australian. Motoring at the recent Mondial Paris Motor Show, in which he said, underline mine:

To say that BMW is no longer as good as it used to be is a fun sport, but I actually think that Bavarians have done a lot of good things lately. The last 5 series is one of the best sedans in the world. The new X5 has recently gotten excellent ratings here too. The brand is doing interesting things with electrification. The last M3 I drove on a track is one of the most capable and competent cars I have ever experienced. Series 2 remains the light and the truth, and we will soon have a new one. The new Z4 and 8 series are welcome additions to a landscape increasingly dominated by SUVs.

But despite Frohlich's obvious frustration of having to struggle with nostalgia for each new product, anxiety is de rigueur. This G20 is not only the largest ever, but by far the first to be deployed without a manual transmission in the US market. it always looks like a betrayal of the base.

Anyway, BMW would appreciate that you (and the reporters) would stop raising this cursed E46, thank you very much.
