BMW X3 M and X4 M officially announced with camouflaged prototypes

BMW M GmbH Expands Its Range of High-Performance Four-Wheel Drive Models – Camouflaged prototypes will be showcased at a driving event as part of the DTM's racing support program.

Munich. The BMW M GmbH is expanding its range of high-performance models in the Sport Utility Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Cup (SAC) segments. The typical high-performance character of BMW automobiles will be passed on to two other BMW X models, whose serial development has already been launched. During the DTM race weekend at the Nürburgring (7-9 September 2018), the prototypes of the BMW X3 M and the BMW X4 M will be tested on the circuit. Thus, camouflaged pre-series vehicles will make their first public appearance precisely where the dynamic driving qualities of the BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M will reach their final level of maturity. The Nürburgring is the traditional setting for the completion of the ultimate test and tuning program for the overall specific M package including the drive system, the suspension and the aerodynamics.

With large air intakes at the front, specific M features for optimized aerodynamics and an exhaust system with four exhaust outlets integrated into the rear apron, the vehicles already supported the features of a BMW M model at an early stage of their development. The technological highlight of the BMW X3 M and the BMW X4 M is a newly developed inline six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-speed features.

The specific setting of the M xDrive technology introduced for the first time in the new BMW M5 is part of the development process. This technology is deployed on the BMW X3 M and the BMW X4 M to ensure a constant transfer of engine power to all four wheels. Further development of the M-specific intelligent four-wheel drive system ensures maximum traction and lossless torque distribution for extremely dynamic handling characteristics.
