A pair of elite MMO manufacturers team up with the surprise announcement that CCP Games, best known for EVE Online, was acquired by another developer. Their new owner? Black Desert Online Pearl Abyss developer.
Pearl Abyss has made a name for itself with the successful launch of Black Desert Online in Korea, which has since expanded globally and to other platforms. In 2018, this success continued with the launch of Black Desert Mobile, and now, the acquisition of CCP Games and three studios. With the development of the worldwide mobile title in 2019 and several unpublished CCP titles under development, Pearl Abyss expects next year to be the most important.

CCP games currently have EVE: Valkyrie, Sparc and their own mobile title, EVE: Ascension War, alongside other virtual reality projects on the market and revealed to EVE Fanfest this spring that their highly anticipated shooter – the still untitled Nova Project – will be playable later this year. There has been no word since but CCP is hosting an EVE Vegas event next month, where we hope to learn more.
The partnership between Pearl and CCP is interesting, given their own successes and development skills in the online market. EVE actors do not have to worry about the evolution of EVE online since the plan provides that CCP "operates independently as a developer with studios in Reykjavik, London and Shanghai, while integrating its development and publishing expertise at Pearl Abyss "operations for all current and future projects." The acquisition positions itself as a strategic partnership with access to more resources.
