Chevrolet Colorado adds special RST and Z71 Trail Runner editions

Chevy unveiled two new special editions of its Colorado truck, focused on both off-road and street racers, to mark the fourth anniversary of the brand's return. The mid-size truck was relaunched in late 2014 and since then nearly 430,000 have been sold, Chevrolet said today.

For the road, there is the Chevrolet Colorado RST 2019. This picks up where other RST editions stop, such as Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado. It is based on Colorado's existing LT trim.

For this special edition, Chevy adds a monochrome outer offset set, with a black belt line and side moldings. The hatchback wears a black badge for bow ties, Colorado and RST. It also adds 20-inch wheels – a first for the truck – in glossy black.

The Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Runner 2019, meanwhile, is undoubtedly even more interesting. First of all, Chevy adopts a Colorado Z71 off-road package, to which is added the underbody protection offered by the Colorado ZR2. It is also equipped with front and center plates in stamped aluminum, as well as functional protection against scales. The 17-inch Goodyear Duratrac tires complete the process.

It is part of Colorado's growing line of off-road options. The Colorado Z71, with its off-road suspension and automatic locking rear differential, is perfect for those who only need the basics. The Chevrolet also has 17-inch all-terrain tires.

Then comes the Colorado Z61 Trail Runner, then the Colorado ZR2. Things get more serious out there, with a 3.5-inch wider track and a 2-inch suspension lift. Front and rear electronic locking differentials are also standard on the ZR2, as are the Multimatic DSSV dampers.

Finally, the Colorado ZR2 Bison further increases speed. Five hot-stamped Boron steel skid plates, as well as front and rear stamped steel bumpers with provisions for the front winch and recovery points at the rear, make this Colorado's toughest Chevrolet. It will go on sale early 2019.

The RST and the Z71 Trail Runner will also receive the "CHEVROLET" cross-over grille from Zison Bison. Chevy will offer it as an option for other Colorado models, priced at $ 395 before taxes and installation. No pricing information for Colorado RST or Z71 Trail Runner yet.
