Chromecasts can now be used to play music in sync across multiple rooms and devices. Engadget indicates that a current update allows the addition of Chromecasts to groups of speakers, a convenient feature for those who wish to combine multiple devices compatible with Google Cast for simultaneous audio streaming. Previously, speaker groups could only be created with audio devices, which meant that standard Chromecast was excluded.
Google announced that support for speaker groups would arrive on Chromecast in October, so it was only a matter of time until it was set up. The feature appears to be available now for users who have signed up for the Google preview program and works with all generations of Chromecast. XDA developers reported that some users who did not see the option could have it appear by restarting the device multiple times. When streaming to the speaker group, Chromecast displays song information in the lower-left corner of the screen, above the background photographs.
To try adding your Chromecast to a group of speakers, enable the preview program in the Google Home app in the Settings menu of your Chromecast. This is a nice update which means that many more people will have multi-room audio capabilities.
