This week, in clothing technology: Apple's latest smart watches are compared, the Montblanc smart watch is discussed and how Fitbit could help solve a murder.

Apple Watch Series 4Apple

The Week in Wearables is a collection of news, published weekly, focused on certain events in the world of technology that you can wear on the wrist, on the head, in the ear, around the waist, in the bottom of your back or, well, you have the idea.

Apple Watch Series 4 and Series 3 compared in the details of the scientific police

I mean, I hope that's what you are going to think. I use the 4 Series just after its announcement and compare it to the 3 Series which is always available in the hope that those who do not know which one to choose will have some clarity.

Design: intelligent and intelligent

Since its very first appearance, the Apple Watch has a chic and elegant look. Frankly, every Apple Watch has remained the same until this year. Now, although the new watch is clearly an evolution of the old, the new model is very different. It differs in size, shape of the screen, materials and digital crown. Let's start with global sizes …

Dimensions

The new housing is larger than the old one, measured according to the height.

  • Apple Watch Series 3 38mm GPS + Cellphone: 38.6 x 33.3 x 11.4mm, 28.7g (Aluminum). GPS only: same dimensions, 26.7 g (aluminum)
  • Apple Watch 4 Series 40mm GPS + Cellular: 39.8 x 34.4 x 10.7mm, 30.1g (Aluminum), 39.8g (Stainless Steel). GPS only: same dimensions, 32.3g (aluminum)
  • Apple Watch Series 3 42mm GPS + Cellphone: 42.5 x 36.4 x 11.4mm, 34.9g (Aluminum). GPS only: same dimensions, 30.1 g (aluminum)
  • Apple Watch 4 Series 44mm GPS + Cell Phone: 44 x 37.8 x 10.7mm, 36.7g (Aluminum), 47.9g (Stainless Steel). GPS only: same dimensions, 36.7 g (aluminum).

The size is slightly different when you look at the old and the new side by side, but when you ride the watch, it's the thickness of the front-back where you can feel the difference: in both cases, the watch decreased by 0.7 mm. .

Unsurprisingly, the new watches are a bit heavier and stainless steel is heavier than aluminum. Series 3 is only available in an aluminum housing and in Series 4, GPS but non-cellular models are also available in aluminum only.

If you want the lightest watch, you'll choose the 38mm model with GPS only, but frankly, the differences in weight are hardly noticeable when the watch is on your wrist and there are more important considerations when choosing, I say.

Fitbit Data leads to arrest in murder case

Fortune recounted how a Fitbit was able to help in a recent case, involving a suspect and turning the case of an alleged suicide into an alleged murder.

When Karen Navarra, 67, was found dead, stabbed in the head and neck, in his home in San Jose on September 13, it was clear to the investigators that the one who killed her had organized the scene to look like a suicide.

His father-in-law, Anthony Aiello, told the police that he went to Navarre on September 8, bringing him pizzas and biscotti and staying about 15 minutes. Security footage showed that this 90-year-old man's car was still in the driveway when his heart rate increased, slowed down, and then stopped, which police determined with them. data from the Fitbit Alta HR activity tracker that Navarra wore when she died.

Aiello, married to Navarra's 92-year-old mother, was arrested last week for murder and incarcerated in Santa Clara County Prison. New York Times reports. He will appear in court in San Jose today.

Fitbit Charge 3 Availability confirmed

And if you're waiting for the Fitbit Charge 3, know that it's imminent.

Charge 3 will go on sale next week, October 7, although pre-orders are now online. This will cost you $ 149.95 unless you want the special edition equipped with NFC technology. In this case, you will need $ 20 more for the price of $ 169.95. For UK readers, the price is £ 129.99 and pre-orders have also started here.

For many Fitbit users, it's an exciting new. Here is what's new.

The new charge 3 is completely different from the charge 2, especially because the new screen is high resolution and touch. Charge 2 had a screen that seemed to respond to all your contacts but cleverly used the accelerometer to create this effect – technically, it was sensitive to tapping rather than a touch screen.

Anyone who has ever used the pressure sensitive touch screens that preceded the capacitive screen on the iPhone will know that a suitable touch screen is what you want.

And now, the last charge has one. It's not a color screen or anything like that, but it has an improved appearance, with gray levels instead of just white LEDs on a black background, which looks smoother and more detailed.

Montblanc Summit 2Mont Blanc

Montblanc Summit 2 luxury smart watch

The brilliant Jeremy White from Wired has introduced a new luxury Montblanc smartwatch to be sold in the UK at prices of £ 845 ($ 1,099) and up.

A little more than a year after the launch of the first Montblanc smartwatch, the company announced its next version of the laptop, the Summit 2.

The watch, with a starting price of £ 845, has a new smaller 42-millimeter case, making it considerably smaller than the original 46 mm. The Summit 2 runs on the latest Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset from Qualcomm and will be available from October 15th.

Montblanc will once again come up against similar luxury offerings from TAG Heuer, Louis Vuitton and Apple's Hermes watch versions. But, as for the original, the company has retained a more traditional style. A smaller housing also means a smaller screen, with the 1.2 "full circle AMOLED display, 390 x 390 pixels, covered with domed sapphire crystal.

Even if it happens a bit late at night, the Montblanc Summit 2 will be the first luxury smartwatch to include Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, with improved battery life expected to last a week in time only mode. The long battery life is due in part to the fact that Qualcomm uses a very low power co-processor, the QCC1110, in the chipset. It was designed from scratch specifically for smartwatches. The Summit 2 also runs on Google's Wear operating system, which means it's compatible with both iOS and Android smartphones.

Fantastic updated

If you like the Fantastical app on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, you may be happy to know about the new features, as reported by Zac Hall, which is still worth seeing, at 9to5Mac.

Do you have a new Apple Watch Series 4? Fantastical is now optimized for new 40 and 44mm display sizes so you can see more appointments and reminders on the screen. Fantastical also presents complications for the new Infograph and Infograph Modular watch dials.

The complications of modular infographics include both the new big center option and the new circle options. These can display data such as day and date, current and upcoming appointments, and your progress during the day.

Infographic complications include top-center options that can display text around the dial, other circular complications in the dial, and new corner complications. Each of these can also show the progress made during your day thanks to a smart indicator.

Speaking of the Infograph watch face on Series 4, you may like the following article. And for Fantastical, read more about 9to5Mac here.

And finally…

Also at 9to5Mac, you'll find useful explanations on the face of the Apple Watch Infograph. Personally, I love the Infograph when it is stuffed with useful information. But if you are not like me, then, a) it's ok, we can always get along and b) you can find what Zac Hall has to say about interest …

Infographic can display up to eight complications, but that does not mean that it does, even if the default version is fully loaded. For me, reducing Infograph to the clock is a great starting point.

This requires a lot of Digital crown scrolling on the Apple Watch to set each location of complication on empty and can be faster on the Watch app for iPhone. The end result is a simple and attractive clock, without all the noise of complications recommended for you.

Check out more about what Hall says about 9to5Mac.
