Well what do you know: Nintendo had been thinking about Bowsette before Internet, and the character was almost in Super Mario Odyssey.
Although Bowsette is a character who has taken the internet on his side, this is not a real Nintendo creation, fan art the introduction of Peachette during the bottling of Nintendo Direct last month. Or, at least, we thought that this idea of a Bowser and Princess Peach combination was entirely made by fans, until the release of The Art of Super Mario Odyssey in Japan.
So, in THE ART OF SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY that came out in Japan today, there is an abandoned Bowser concept that takes Peach's body back with his own version of Cappy.
It's a bit surreal how there could have been an "official" bowsette long before the fan got hold of the internet. pic.twitter.com/gSMOqNDKKf

Twitter user Nao (@ Sakusuru) posted this shot from the book full of conceptual art today. This shows a concept where Bowser casts a hat similar to Cappy that allows him to take over / capture Princess Peach's body, making it a more official version of Bowsette. To check these images, more Twitter users having got their hands on the art book posted photos from the same page online.
As Nao noted, it is odd that this more official version of Bowsette existed in a conceptual form long before the fan version became an Internet sensation, although that seems to be the case. Why Nintendo did not decide to delete the idea, it is not clear, but it is common that many ideas of conceptual art remain on the floor of the cutting room during the development of the game .
