The Microsoft Product Manager for Cortana, Javier Soltero, is leaving the company,

"We are grateful for the impact and strategic leadership of Javier over the past four years at Microsoft, and wish him well in reintegrating his business. Bringing all our work together in natural language, intelligence and support, including Cortana, allows us to innovate faster for developers, partners and customers, "said a statement shared today with VentureBeat .

Familiar sources with the subject initially shared the news with ZDNet.

Soltero was named product manager for Cortana in March and was just starting to design a wizard that can handle user needs in non-Windows 10 environments, such as smart speakers, peripherals, and cars . The Amazon-Microsoft partnership to talk with Alexa in Windows 10 and Cortana computers in Echo speakers was launched as a public preview in August.

In an interview with VentureBeat earlier this year, Soltero said he wanted Cortana to be a more multimodal and personalized assistant, who continually improves to help people make the most of their time.

Prior to being appointed Product Manager for Cortana, Soltero joined Microsoft in 2014 as part of the acquisition of his Accompli Messaging Company. He led the redesign of the Office Mobile App before being appointed product manager for the Microsoft Office group.

The departure of Soltero seems to be part of a transfer from the Cortana team of the research group Microsoft AI + to the team Experiences and peripherals of Microsoft led by Rajesh Jha.

The transformation follows the departure of Windows chief Terry Myerson earlier this year as Microsoft focuses more on artificial intelligence and the cloud.

The title and text of the story were updated at 3:45 pm to reflect the fact that VentureBeat has received confirmation of the release of Microsoft's Soltero and include a Microsoft statement and a tweet from Soltero.
