The man, who inspired the name of the video game character "Super Mario" from Nintendo, died at age 84.
The man named Mario Segale died on Oct. 27 in the presence of his family, the New York Post reported.
A major general construction contractor also rented a warehouse that later became the headquarters of Nintendo in the United States.
When the video game giant Nintendo planned to launch their game "Donkey Kong" in the Western world, they noticed similarities between the protagonist of the plumber and Segale. It is at this moment that the protagonist was nicknamed Mario.
"Super Mario" is now the oldest series that has sold over 500 million copies during its lifetime. He won the title of the best-selling video game franchise.
In a statement to Variety, Nintendo offered his condolences to the family of Saegale after his sudden disappearance.
However, it should be noted that Segale was not comfortable with his name used for the match. He is survived by his wife, Donna, aged 62, with four children and nine grandchildren.
