When the credits rolled Destiny 2 Forsaken's first major expansion I was completely overwhelmed by what to do next. It's not since The Taken King had the sensation that the Destiny series was as fresh and exciting. Abandoning is not only an excuse for the mistakes made in Destiny 2, but a powerful statement for everything to come.

The story of Forsaken opens on a much darker note, with the thug-assailant Cayde-6 dying at the hands of an Awakened Prince named Uldren Sov and eight infamous dead barons. Driven by revenge, it's up to your guardian to kill those responsible for the death of your ally. While previous DLCs focused on a larger image, Forsaken is remarkably compact. There are no massive gods that threaten the universe or the extinction of humanity. You are out for blood – simple and clear.

This does not mean that there is no suspicion of something bigger that is still shaking, but the plot of Forsaken never goes away from the reason you are here. It's an irresistible direction to take history and get a glimpse of the underworld in Destiny 2 the universe is engaging. Talking with a croupier at the black market who is playing with dead ghosts is a highlight, especially when he lends you the support of his own soldiers in the missions. Even the barons and their motivations are relatively small. They are only very strong and very crooked criminals who want to achieve their personal goals.

All this leads to a really fantastic ending that lets us guess what will happen with the raid without becoming too bossy. However, for those who want to dig deeper, Bungie has added a ton of legible knowledge into the game via the new Triumph system. Along with other challenges such as raiding or performing specific actions in an activity, users can collect story snippets that flesh out the world of Destiny 2. This is a great addition and will definitely give users something to look for when the grind will drop.

Of course, the main player will collect the plethora of new weapons, armor and exotic pieces. There is plenty of loot to follow, with new (and returning) Exotics featured. With this influx of material, Bungie has put in place a new system called "Collections". This new system allows players to acquire any piece of loot dating from Year 1, as well as all Exotic, Shader, Sparrows and ships obtained. It's an elegant way of not having a user safe brimming with old equipment.

There are also nine new skill trees and supers available in all subclasses. These new capabilities upset the traditional Destiny 2 formula, offering unique and defined roles. If you want to be a healer, consider acquiring the Warlock's Grace Attack that allows them to plant their fiery sword into the ground to create a massive aura that heals and improves the allies. If you want to be more devious, try the new spectral blades that allow you to disappear from view after a heavy attack.

All these Supers fill different slots missing each subclass, which allows users to have more flexibility in their way of playing. Of the nine, only one is a bit disappointing, as the Arcstrider's ability to mirror projectiles is much more situational than the others. That's not to say it's bad, but just not as useful as some other supers.

With regard to what players can use new powers, Forsaken introduces a race of undead aliens known as Scorn. These twisted Fallen are much more than just existing enemies because they have a multitude of new capabilities and new equipment. Marksmen Raiders disappear and reappear in an ether cloud, Chieftans can summon totems that improve their health, and towering Abominations shoot precise bow energy balls. Their aggressive tendency makes the fight much more chaotic, which is very different from most of the factions we have in Destiny 2.

The eight barons who each have their own mission and fight their leader are at the head of the charge. The battles are varied, each baron using different mechanisms to try to give them an advantage. The mad bomber generates mines that must be defused, while The Rider forces you to chase her on a twisted and fire-breathing bike called Pike. Fighting each one feels useful and satisfying, easily eclipsing all boss fights in the previous two DLCs.

Outside missions, there are three new strikes (four if you're on PlayStation 4), a brand new game mode and two main destinations. The Tangled Shore is the traditional destination on which players will spend a good deal of their time. The ruins and asteroids tied together give this area a supernatural feel. It's a fun place to go, but unless you do activities, there's not much interest to explore.

Conversely, the dream city is Destiny 2 first end-of-game location. It means much more difficult enemies and goals to fulfill. Enter the Blind Well, an Escalation Protocol-esc event that allows players to fight off Scorn waves until a powerful boss arrives. The trap is that the air is toxic, so players must stay in a small bubble to avoid damage. It's extremely hectic, but fun enough if you can put together a group. Curiously, there is still no way to organize a large number of Guardians in the game, which means that until you are overloaded, you depend on LFG websites.

What makes the dream city so unique is the number of secrets and hidden quests she has buried under beautiful architecture. The entire site is a big jigsaw puzzle filled with loot for smart players to discover. We spent several hours exploring this area and we barely scratched the surface of this twisted labyrinth. This is one of the best PvE additions made by Bungie and we think there will be secrets discovered weeks – maybe months after the release.

Finally, there is the new mode PvPvE (Player vs Player vs Environment), Gambit. Perhaps the best piece of content ever added to the Destiny series. Gambit has two teams for four competing to kill waves of enemies until a formidable boss appears. First group to defeat their Primeval victories, but the catch is at some points in the game. Players can invade the world and attack the other team. Fusion of both sides of Destiny 2 The gameplay, Gambit is an exhilarating experience that challenges the Guardians in a unique way.

There is a ton of strategy involved in the timing of attacking, blocking another team's ability to score or invade. Since it's the best of the three, you can even agree to lose a round if it means keeping your Super for the start of the match. His blend of PvE and PvP encourages teams to experiment with unique loads and synergies to give their team an edge. Gambit is a concentrated example of Destiny 2 better ideas.
