According to Infiniti, the Black S project, based on the Q60 Red Sport, was designed to test the level of sporting potential of future Infiniti models. And that would be pretty sporty, based on the long list of features of Project Black S.
The exterior of the Project Black S not only benefits from many aerodynamic improvements over the standard Q60, but it also carries a body composed mainly of carbon fiber to gain weight. Infiniti has also replaced the standard Q60 brakes with a set of carbon-ceramic discs.
The Black S project is essentially based on a dual hybrid system co-developed with the Renault Sport Formula One team. The system uses the Q60's 400-horsepower, turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 engine, with a total horsepower of 563 horsepower. Thanks to a seven-speed automatic transmission, transmitting power to the rear wheels, the Project Black S can accelerate from 0 to 60 in less than four seconds.
The Project Black S Hybrid System is unique in that it can charge the built-in 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack in two different ways: as a normal hybrid, the Project Black S can recharge its battery via Recovery braking, but the double The turbos have also been equipped with a pair of generators capable of recovering energy from the heat gases. As a result, the Project Black S can recharge its battery while braking and acceleration.
This stored energy can be used in two ways: the system can re-inject energy into the drive train with an increase of 120 kW, or the system can electrically wind the engine turbos to eliminate delays.

Infiniti continues to evaluate the merits of a performance car such as the Project Black S, but even if it did not produce, one could possibly see a softened version of its hybrid transmission under the hood of future Infiniti models. Infiniti has already announced its intention to only offer electrified vehicles from 2021 and it would make sense to use the current engine range of the company as a starting point.
