Devialet revealed Tuesday the Phantom Reactor, a smaller version of its Phantom speaker, designed to be affordable beyond the rich.
Depending on the version, the Phantom Reactor can deliver peak power of 600 or 900 watts, generating up to 98 decibels at full volume. The speaker nevertheless has a frequency range of between 18 Hz and 21 kilohertz, and Devialet claims distortion-free sound at each volume setting.
In addition to the analog, optical and Ethernet inputs, the speaker offers Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies, the latter being compatible with AirPlay, UPnP and Spotify Connect. A 2019 update will add Chromecast Audio and will pair multiple speakers.
The product does not yet support AirPlay 2, but CEO Franck Lebouchard hinted at the prospect in an interview with TechCrunch, explaining why there is no voice assistant on board.
"We are totally focused on sound quality, we want to be independent of the platform with Apple, Amazon or Google," he said. "Our idea is to make our speakers compatible with all the protocols of these companies – but our business is sound quality."
The Phantom standard is already compatible with AirPlay 2 and was in fact one of the first to adopt it.
The main feature of AirPlay 2 is multi-room audio, but it also offers a much larger broadcast buffer compared to the original AirPlay protocol, which helps reduce interruptions and provide a seamless stream even when you're not listening. an iPhone or iPad performs other tasks. The AirPlay speakers will appear in Mac and iOS Home Home applications and can be controlled there or via Siri, though for playing, pausing or changing rooms.
Pre-orders for the reactor start Wednesday before the October 24th expedition date. The 600-watt model will cost $ 999, while the 900-watt model will cost $ 1,299.
