Did Konami actually disable the TP on PS4 with "stealth update"? Not yet

The legend of P.T. continues, more than four years after the playable teaser of Kojima Productions for Silent hills has arrived on PlayStation 4. Today, horribly, it's time for Halloween, a rumor that P.T. had been disabled and made unplayable by Konami as part of an update of the game that was spreading like wildfire. Like with P.T. himself, understanding what is really happening has been a bit confusing.

The rumor seems to come from a message posted five days ago on the Silent Hill sub-disk by a user who said he could no longer access it. P.T., even if it has been downloaded and "bought". This user has released a screenshot of the game's information screen, showing that they had updated the game most recently on Oct. 22 and that version 1.01 was installed . The information screen indicates that the software is "not eligible" at startup, which usually indicates that a PS4 user must restore his license for the game. Other subreddit members have responded in the thread original saying that they could play the game, as they had done in recent years.

Today, this same screen shot has been reissued on the Subreddit of Silent Hill and on the subreddit of Super Best Friends Play with much more alarmist thread titles. The editors warned others that Konami "appeared to be revoking the license of P.T."And that PS4 owners must disconnect their consoles from the Internet and disable automatic software updates to preserve their downloaded copy.

"In Konami's biggest possible move, Konami just sent a patch for anyone who still has a PT installed," wrote Reddit user Chucklay. "The patch disables the game. Happy Halloween and Fuckonami! "

Although anger at Konami is not lacking, there is no reason to believe that the publisher has published a "stealth update" of the Kill Switch. P.T. disable the demo for PS4 owners who have already downloaded it.

We checked with our installed copies of P.T. on two PlayStation 4 consoles and could play the game without incident. The console did not force a game update and a manual check of this update indicated that we were using the latest version (listed under version 1.00).

Hours after the rumor spread, Twitch's streamers were still playing P.T. Reports from other users on Twitter, the ResetEra forum and Reddit indicate that they can still play the game and that they have not been the subject of a software update.

We checked with Konami if they had an update for P.T. planned. We will update when the company responds.

Nevertheless, the idea that Konami would likely release an update to kill a game that PS4 owners have clung to, after the cancellation of Silent hills and the removal of P.T. PlayStation Store is a testament to the company's reputation in this regard. Silent Hill fans and Hideo Kojima's fans have long cursed Konami for his treatment of P.T., one of the best surprise game ads ever organized and one of the best horror games of all time. The owners of PS4 have carefully kept their installed copies of the game and have found workarounds to download it unofficially, which adds to the charm of the possession. P.T.

Whatever his fate, more than four years later, P.T. is always able to scare. And today's panic reminds us to play the game as long as we can.
