Do not expect Apple to launch its iPhone 5G in 2019

One of the next major advances in mobile will not come from a specific device, but will rather have an effect on many devices over the next few years. This is the arrival of 5G networks and the promise of faster download speeds offered by networks with more bandwidth than today. It's a safe bet that we will see several smartphones supporting 5G in 2019, but according to a new report, Apple will not be among the first.

This should not be a surprise for Apple users, as the company often takes the time to implement new technologies and features in its devices, leaving others in first place. According to sources talking to Quick businessit will be the same case with the 5G support for iPhone too. This source "knowing the projects of Apple" indicates that the first iPhone 5G is expected to come out in 2020.

We know that Apple has been interested in 5G technology for some time because it has been approved by the FCC for over a year. The report notes that the iPhone 5G will use the Intel 8161 5G modem, although it is currently using an 8060 precursor chip for testing and prototyping purposes. The latter seems to have too many problems of heat dissipation and discharge of the battery to be used in a device for consumers.

Even though Apple may be unhappy with the Intel chip for these performance issues, the persistent problems with using Qualcomm as a vendor mean they are in talks with MediaTek as a backup chip provider in the case where Intel could not deliver.
