The original Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro has transformed the Multistrada, a sporty touring enthusiast, into an off-road adventure motorcycle. As seen throughout the 2019 motorcycle announcements, the move was added to provide both more power and clear regulations on Euro 4 emissions. Making its debut in the Multistrada road models last year, the same 1,262cc Testastretta DVT engine is installed in the Multistrada Enduro model.
The new displacement is due to a longer piston stroke of 67.9 to 71.5 mm (the bore remains unchanged at 106 mm). There are also new piston rods, crankshaft and cylinders. In addition, the DVT system is recalibrated to optimize transmission of torque at low and medium speeds. In fact, 85% of the torque is available at less than 3,500 rpm, with an increase of 17% at 5,500 rpm compared to its predecessor of 1,200 cm3. The additional displacement also results in a supposedly higher maximum power of 158 hp at 9,500 rpm and a peak torque of 94 lb-ft at 7,500 rpm. According to Ducati, it is the highest torque available in the category at 4,000 rpm.
Additional attractions include an exhaust with a new driving layout, an internal pre-muffler layout and a muffler; In addition, the admission of air is redesigned. The Multistrada 1260 Enduro engine also features a new alternator cover that houses a new advanced speed sensor. This key is required for the Up & Down DQS (Ducati Quick Shift) system, which allows up and down speeds without clutch.
More than the force has been updated. For 2019, the brain revisions of the Multistrada 1260 Enduro were important. First, there is the new six-axis Bosch IMU (inertial measurement unit). The four driving modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro) are superimposed on the parameters of these functions. All modes have specific settings for suspension and electronics suites, and almost everything is customizable to suit your preferences.
The Evolution DSS (Ducati Skyhook Suspension) system has also evolved. There is a new Sachs fork with pressurized cartridge and "low wear" fork arm, a sensor that controls the operation of the rear shock and upgraded software to manage IMU data. The fork and the damper are electronic. The rebound damping and compression damping are continuously adjusted using a semi-active approach. Ducati says that a smoother and more controlled ride has been achieved, with better control in various circumstances.
On the braking front, the components remain unchanged with the Brembo M4.32 monobloc radial calipers at the front and a Brembo caliper at the rear; However, Bosch Cornering ABS is now integrated with the rest of the suite.
The list of modifications is completed by a new tire. The Multistrada 1260 Enduro is equipped with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires. In collaboration with Pirelli, Ducati claims better off-road performance and longer life.
The technological suite has also been updated to enhance the driving experience. There is a new "human-machine interface" (HMI): the 5-inch TFT color display is modified with a new user interface to make the controls more user-friendly. The Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) is now included. It connects the bike to the cyclist's smartphone via Bluetooth for multimedia and functional access, such as incoming calls, text messaging and music selection.
The Multistrada 1260 Enduro is also compatible with the new Ducati Link application. This application allows cyclists to define the driving mode (combination of load and driving modes) and customize the parameters of each driving mode (ABS, Ducati traction control, etc.) via their smartphone. The application also provides information on maintenance times, a user manual and a Ducati Store locator. In addition, the Ducati Link app also allows pilots to record and share performance and routes.
Finally, stylistic and ergonomic improvements are made.
