Google developers have designed a number of Easter eggs for research over the past 20 years. You probably know the biggest hits, from tilting to making a barrel, but it turns out that an entire text adventure game has always been hidden in the source code of Google.com.
Tracked by the user Reddit attempt_number_1, and reported for the first time by RockPaperShotgun, the game is accessed by performing a Google search on "text adventure" and then typing Cmd + Option + J (for Mac users) or Ctrl + Shift + J (for PC users) to display the console window with the following prompt: "Do you want to play a game? (yes / no)" .
The answer by Yes starts the game, in which you play as a "big blue G" looking for the other letters of the word "Google".
You can unlock this Easter egg through the Google Chrome browser. It also works via Microsoft Edge, but does not seem to fit well in Firefox or Safari.
For those who have never played text adventures before, it's the Internet equivalent of an adventure tale. Typing "north", "south", "east" or "west" moves you around the world; some prompts sometimes appear to tell you which objects you can interact with.
Typing "map" will also bring up a navigation grid that will help you navigate the area without encountering unresolved walls or headaches.
