eBay uses an iPhone X camera to allow people to shop by moving their heads

eBay wants to make shopping more accessible to people with disabilities.

The company has developed a technology that uses Apple's ARKit and the iPhone X camera to track head movements, allowing for hands-free shopping. The open source project, called HeadGaze, is now available on GitHub, an online community for code sharing.

"As a person with an extensive motor disability, I do not have total control over my limbs," said Muratcan Cicek, an intern at eBay and one of the project's developers. "These limitations hinder my ability to perform everyday tasks, like going to the grocery store and shopping independently, even though I have my own income."

The eBay test application using this technology allows people to navigate and navigate the iPhone with subtle head movements. For example, if you want to see what deals are available today, you can head to the up and down buttons and scroll through the offers in different categories, according to the blog's article. By pointing your head to the left and right buttons, you can drag elements horizontally as in a carousel.

With this project, eBay joins other technology companies striving to help people with disabilities. Last month, Google said that he was working with GN Hearing to create a low-consumption hearing aid with streaming support capable of connecting to future versions of Android.
