One of the most interesting aspects of the Legend of Zelda series is to understand how each game fits into the timeline of the universe. With Breath of the Wild, however, this discussion has become a bit more complicated.
In the book The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Nature – Creation of a Champion, via Nintendo Insider, the producer of the Eiji Aonuma series basically stated that he did not intend to provide a definitive answer as to the game's place in the timeline, as was the case with the other entries of the Zelda encyclopedia. The main reason is that it is a rather tricky task to do in the first place, and Aonuma thought it would be more fun for imaginative players to bring their own answers.
"We realized that people took pleasure in imagining the story that emerges from the fragmented imagery we provide. If we define a restricted calendar, there would be a definitive story, which would eliminate any room for maneuver for the imagination, which would not be as fun.
"We want players to continue to have fun imagining this world even after playing. So, this time, we decided to avoid making clarifications. I hope everyone can find their own answer, in their own way. "
So there you have it. While determining the exact positioning of the game in the timeline is not absolutely necessary for your own satisfaction, it is always fun to speculate and theorize about it.
Nevertheless, it is good to finally end the discussion and Nintendo to let the most fervent fans to create their own stories for Breath of the Wild.
The legend of Zelda: Wild Breath is now available on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
