CCP, the developers of the huge space Eve Online MMO, was acquired by the team behind Black Desert Online, Pearl Abyss. The announcement was made in a press release issued earlier this morning.
CCP has been working on Eve Online since the game's launch in 2003. The complexity and breadth of the game mean that part of its internal work can be confusing outside. That said, the stories of politics, subterfuge and war that the game and its players are generating Eve in one of the most intriguing MMOs.
Pearl Abyss released Black Desert Online, its open-world medieval RPG, in 2014. The game has continued to grow since then, with a mobile launch earlier this year. According to the press release, the agreement between the two companies states that "CCP games will continue to operate independently as a developer" in all its three studios. The intention seems to be that Pearl Abyss will benefit from the CCP's long-term experience in developing MMOs to help develop its game.
