Facebook has served more than 100 foreign authentic accounts

Last night, Facebook posted a blog post containing an update on some of the potentially malicious behaviors discovered on its platform. According to Nathaniel Gleicher, head of the company 's cyber security policy, Facebook was contacted Sunday by federal law enforcement officials about some accounts that may be linked to foreign entities.

Gleicher and his team performed an initial analysis and discovered about 30 accounts on Facebook and 85 on Instagram that "may be engaged in coordinated inauthentic behavior,"According to his post.

Facebook accounts, he says, were usually in Russian or French – Instagram accounts were mostly in English. They are all blocked, as well as the pages to which they have been associated. Accounts seemed to vary in content; some focused on political topics, others on celebrities. Facebook says the investigation is still too early, but she wanted to provide an update considering today's election.

For now, that's all we know. It seems that Facebook is trying to be proactive in disclosing this information. The influence of these accounts or their role in foreign intrusion is unclear. We will have to wait to see if the company's efforts to fight the foreign intrusion have been successful.
