The change is difficult, so get ready, Facebook Messenger users: an overhaul of the application is underway.
Introduced on Tuesday, Messenger 4, which is being deployed and expected to reach all users in the coming weeks, is synonymous with simplicity. To this end, Facebook has reduced the number of tabs inside the application from nine to three: Cats, People and Discover.
The chats will host all your face-to-face and group chats, in People, you'll be able to see your friends' stories and find out who's active, and in Discover you can connect with companies and play Instant Games.
Facebook messenger, Davis Marcus, announced the new design in January, noting that the application was "getting too crowded."
Do not be afraid to lose your favorite Messenger features: Facebook stated that they all remained in place.
"Whether you want to quiz your friends on movies to watch, split the bill for dinner last night, share your live location to find friends at a music festival, challenge them to your favorite games or catch up a group video game, we do not change anything you've always liked about Messenger, "Messenger vice president Stan Chudnovsky said in a blog post.
Meanwhile, a new Messenger 4 feature lets you spice up your chat bubbles with custom color gradients, which you can see below.
"You can see colors change from red to blue, for example, when you scroll up or down a conversation," Chudnovsky explained.
In the future, Facebook plans to introduce a dark mode for those who prefer a black background and a "redesigned interface that eliminates glare from your phone".
We hope people will appreciate the new version of Messenger better than the widespread Shapchat redesign earlier this year. Snapchat was forced to cancel some elements of the redesign after the users revolt.
