Fallout 76 is a new type of game for the franchise, presenting a connected and persistent world. Pete Hines, Vice President of Marketing at Bethesda, confirmed that once you award your SPECIAL points, you can no longer meet them.
A fan on Twitter asked what could be done when he reached level 50, he had spent all his points SPECIAL and he was unhappy with the development of his character. Can he respec or should he create a new character from scratch? Hines replied clearly.
SPECIAL points are the acronym applied to your different stats in Fallout games, meaning Strength, Perception, Stamina, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. Games are known for rewarding the intelligent distribution of SPECIAL – like dialog changes to turn you into a silly brute if you put all your arguments into strength and none in intelligence, or giving you extra ways to get you out of trouble if you have more charisma.
Being stuck in your decisions makes sense for a connected online world, because much of the game will depend on your choices and their consequences for your interactions with other players. But it can also mean that you will want to plan your construction a little more carefully from the beginning.
