FIFA 19 – number one as usual

This year's FIFA will not be a record, even though it's already the UK's best selling video game of the year.

There has never been any doubt about this week's number one, but it is the degree of success of FIFA 19 that is the issue in the last British top 40.

Physical sales – which are all these cards on the track – are down 25% on FIFA 18, which represents a massive drop. It is normal for consecutive sales to fall, with digital sales absorbing a growing percentage, but a 25% drop in one year is extreme.

It may be that, for whatever reason, the rest of this year is less popular than usual, but there is also a difference between the physical price and the digital price this year – the big British supermarkets do not not offering the same price cuts as they have in the past.

In terms of sales format, the PlayStation 4 dominated with 64%, the series now being marketed with Sony. That left the Xbox One on 35% and the Nintendo Switch on only 1%.

Marvel's Spider-Man has fallen to second place in all-format standings (individual-size cards have not yet arrived), but at the same time it exceeds Far Cry 5 to become the second best-selling game in the world. ;year. FIFA 19.

Third place, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider holds firm since its disappointing debut, suggesting a relatively strong word of mouth.

The second new entry of the week is Valkryia Chronicles 4, which managed to climb to ninth place in the all-formats chart. PlayStation 4 accounted for 54% of sales, but Switch was in second place at 39%, followed by only 7% for Xbox One.

More: The game

Neither the Switch nor the Xbox One have had a game of Valkyria Chronicles before (although the Xbox One has experienced the Valkryia revolution), but the large disparity in sales suggests that the public of the Japanese niche games is bigger on the Switch.

The only other new entry of the week was the Switch version of Dragon Ball FighterZ, which propelled the game to 29th overall.

Although FIFA is not ready to leave the top 10 before the end of next year, it seldom retains first place and next week, it will likely belong to Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
