Final details for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are coming this week, with Nintendo announcing a lengthy Direct video presentation scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1. While some surprises still might pop up between now and launch, we’re expecting everything from a full roster reveal to details on additional game modes.
We knew that Nintendo was planning a Smash presentation sometime in November, but we certainly weren’t expecting it to be the first day of the month. In other words, we don’t have much longer to wait to have all of our burning questions answered concerning the game. The presentation goes live at 10 a.m. EDT/7 a.m. PDT, and you can stream it through services like YouTube, Twitch or Nintendo’s own Direct website.
It’ll be an early morning for some folks, but we imagine the 40-minute presentation will be worth it considering the fact that it will be hosted by Game Director Masahiro Sakurai. The announcement states the presentation will focus on “new information” for Smash Bros. Ultimate, leading us to wonder how much, exactly, Nintendo could possibly have left to talk about. We have some ideas, of course, but a lot of it is pure speculation.
What we know for sure is that this will be Sakurai’s opportunity to talk about the game’s mysterious mode, which was blurred out and only hinted at during the most recent Direct. There are rumors that it is called “Spirit Mode” but, again, we can’t be sure of anything until Sakurai makes an official announcement. Since they haven’t really discussed single player content up to this point, it seems like a safe bet that whatever the mode is will be focused on some solo activities.
Another possibility is that the roster and levels will actually be finalized. More could always be added via DLC but, up until now, Nintendo has made strong hints that additional announcements are inbound. Since this is the final Smash Direct before launch, it seems like a given that we’ll be getting some news Thursday in those particular departments. A rumor started circulating last week concerning a crop of new playable characters but, again, we don’t want to give too much weight to rumors until Nintendo makes things official. Will we actually get Street Fighter‘s Ken, Isaac from Golden Sun or Banjo-Kazooie? Only time will tell.
After the 40-minute Smash Direct, the broadcast will immediately switch to a Nintendo Treehouse Live presentation. Smash Bros. will kick things off, presumably giving the team the chance to show off any new characters, levels or modes that get discussed in the first presentation. After that, you can expect gameplay and details for Diablo 3, the Pokemon Let’s Go games and Yoshi’s Crafted World.
With only a couple days left before the rest of the curtain is pulled back, feel free to take this opportunity to share any remaining “wish list” items in the comments below.
