Finalize your vacation plans with Google's new travel tools

The web giant introduced Thursday a new feature that offers personalized travel recommendations during the search, based on confirmations of flights and hotels from your Gmail account.

Let's say you are booking a hotel room in Austin. The next time you search the city of Texas on Google, "you'll see things like flight prices, weather and events for your travel dates, and even restaurants near you," Berna Erol, product manager Google Travel. Emmanuel Marot, hotel product manager, explained in a blog post.

Google is also strengthening its Your Travel tool to help you keep track of your travel queries. From October, Your Trips will display the prices of the flights that you follow, the places you have saved and your recent searches for flights and hotels for that destination.

"This way, you can easily search for your travel queries when you return to Google," wrote Erol and Marot. You can unsubscribe from these "private results" if you wish; for more information, go here.

Your Trips already shows all your past and future travel bookings from Gmail; you can access it by searching for "my travels" on Google or by tapping the Google Flights or Hotels Your Travel tab on your phone.

To help you save on airline tickets during the holiday season, Google Flights will tell you if fares are more expensive or cheaper than usual when you search for flights on your phone. Google already offers this information for flights around Thanksgiving and plans to offer it also for flights around the December holidays. It will also inform you if the flights "will not go down or … will probably increase in the next five days," wrote Erol and Marot.

Finally, to help you decide where to stay, Google now displays hotel location scores or neighborhood ratings based on Google Maps information. The web giant gives the Carlyle Brera hotel in Milan a "good" rating, noting that it is located in an "upscale area with gourmet cuisine in Eataly, fashion boutiques and international gourmet restaurants".
